Morton Grad Leads AJGA Tournament In Pekin

Kuhl Fires 68 For Lead at Points Open

PEKIN, Ill. - Morton's Tommy Kuhl had five birdies in the final nine holes and shot a 68 to grab the first round lead at the AJGA D.A. Points Junior Open at Pekin County Club on Tuesday.

Kuhl, a University of Illinois signee, has a one-shot lead over Elburn's William Marshall and a two-shot lead over Normal U-High grad Dallas Koth of Bloomington.

The defending Illinois High School Association state champ was even par through nine holes then ripped off four straight birdies. He also birdied No. 15 before bogeying his final hole of the day.

The youngest competitor in the field is 14-year-old Weston Walker of Peoria. The soon-to-be eighth grader carded a 73 and is tied for 13th.
