PEORIA, Ill. - Normal West wanted to play a basketball game to honor a beloved volunteer Thursday.
Peoria Richwoods beat West, 62-30, in a girls basketball game but the final score wasn't really part of teh story. The Wildcats played the game, as scheduled, one night after longtime scorekeeper and announcer Charlie Crabtree was killed in a buss accident.
Crabtree, 72, was on a bus filled with Normal West players returning home from a freshmen game when it was hit head-on by a truck on Interstate 74 just east of Bloomington on Wednesday night. Crabtree and the drive of the truck were killed.
The varsity players and coaches said they wanted to play the game to honor Crabtree.
