The Dunlap soccer team is off to a great start this season, thanks in large part to a trio of Cenek’s. Peter Cenek is the head coach of the Eagles, but he is joined by two daughters on the team. A truly special season for him as a coach, and a father.
“Its really exciting, it makes me proud to be a dad, honestly. To be able to coach them, I’ve coached them individually for years,” Peter Cenek said. “And this has been the first time they’ve actually played on the same team.”
Sierra is a senior, and also a team captain. She runs the team through the midfield and has an eye for goal. And for the first time ever, Sierra gets to play on the same team as her younger sister, Sammi, a freshman.
“It’s awesome. My dad has pretty much coached me my whole life, nothing is different there. I love it,” Sierra Cenek said. “But I never actually have been able to play with my sister because we are so far apart. We enjoy playing games together.”
“Ever since shes been a freshman, Ive been able to watch her from the bleachers,” said Sammi Cenek. “And now being able to play with her on the field, its just incredible to look up to someone like her. Shes an amazing person.”
The Eagles are hoping for a special season that includes a deep postseason run. But regardless of how the season finishes, itt will always be a special year for the Cenek family.
“I wouldn’t have it any other way, I love having him on my sidelines coaching with me, and I love being able to play with my sister,” said Sammi Cenek. “I’ll never forget any of these moments and Ill cherish them for a long time.”
“The main thing is Im just happy,” said Peter Cenek. “Im trying to enjoy it, not only as a coach, but more as a father.”
