Washington Back In Peoria Sectional Tuesday

Local Sports

Washington is back in the Peoria sectional.

The Mid-Illini co-champs earned their first trip to the sectionals with a regional title win over Normal U-High on Friday. Washington will play sterling in the sectional semifinal at Bradley’s Renaissance Coliseum.

“If you walk into our locker room right now, you’ll see the regional plaque laying on the floor up against the wall,” said Washington coach Kevin Brown. “That’s nice and it will be nice for the boys to look at down the road, like in ten years if they come back and walk through the halls. But playing at the Renaissance was what our real trophy was.”

The Panthers are making their first trip to the sectional in five seasons.

“When I was a kid growing up, I went to the sectional with my dad every year to watch,” said Washington sophomore forward Colin Dietz. “I am really excited to finally get my chance to play in it. It’ll be a lot of fun.”
