Washington Coach Kevin Brown Dies

WASHINGTON, Ill. — Washington High School basketball coach Kevin Brown died Tuesday night after a ten-month battle with brain cancer. He was 50.

Brown was diagnosed in August 2018 and had surgery to remove a tumor from his brain. He recovered to coach his basketball team when the season started in November.

He took a medical leave of absence on Feb. 4 and didn’t return to the team. He is survived by his wife Jodi.

Brown coached high school basketball 22 years, starting his career at Bloomington Central Catholic in 1997. He coached the Saints for five seasons and went to a Colorado high school for two years before returning to central Illinois to take the job at Washington in 2004. 

He took Central Catholic to state in basketball in 2002, Washington in basketball in 2008 and coached Washington’s baseball team to a third place state finish in 2007.
