Notre Dame Soccer One Win From 3A State Finals

Sports

Notre Dame may be surprising soccer teams all around the state.

In their first season as a  Class 3A school, Notre Dame is one win from advancing to the state soccer finals.

“I think nobody thought we’d be here this year,” said coach Mike Bare of his traditional Class 2A power. “We graduated so much, and we had a couple kids come back and decide not to play for us. For these kids to come back and find a way to get to the super-sectional, it means a lot..”

Notre Dame will play Bradley-Bourbonnais in the Joliet super-sectional on Tuesday. The Irish beat Collinsville in penalty kicks to win Friday’s sectional crown.

“It’s so exciting. I can’t even explain how exciting this is,” said freshman goal keeper Lucas Fontana. “It’s amazing.”
