Top seed Peoria High rushed for more than 500 yards in a 43-35 win at Morris. Junior running back Geno Hess tallied 274 yards and five touchdowns. The Lions advance to just the second state title game in school history, after a runner-up finish in 1988.
In the program’s first state semifinal appearance, Canton fell 49-21 to a mighty Rochester team. The Little Giants fell behind early and could not close the gap, despite outscoring the Rockets 21-0 in the second half.
The Dee-Mack Chiefs’ three-headed monster rushing attack of Jared Reese, Preston Lester and Jacob Carnicle lead the way in a dominant 34-7 win at Annawan/Wethersfield. Dee-Mack will make its second state title appearance. The Chiefs lost in the 2A final in 1987.
