PEORIA, Ill. — She’s says her summer went by in the blink of an eye.
Morton’s Katie Krupa was very busy. It’s been non-stop since she helped the Lady Potters win the class 3A girls state basketball title in March.
“June was crazy. I had to balance basketball and volleyball at school. A lot of practices, a lot of early mornings,” Krupa said. “It’s so fun!”
Then there was her college basketball recruiting, which was hotter than July. Krupa has a hard time remembering all the scholarship offers she received.
“I have Bradley, Valparaiso, Southern Illinois, Illinois State,” Krupa said with a pause. “This is hard.”
On the surface, you’d think a six-foot starter on a state championship team would naturally receive a lot of college basketball recruiting attention. But Krupa says she never dreamed things would play out this way.
“I thought I’d wait and see where I want to go, senior year and go to our local college. It won’t be a big deal,” said Krupa. “But it blew up and I didn’t expect it!”
However, it wasn’t all about basketball and camps this summer. Just two weeks before school started, she went to Barbados.
“I went with my friend (sophomore) Emma Skinner and her family,” Krupa said. “It was super fun, a great break.”
Her favorite part of the trip?
“Probably jumping off a cliff (into the ocean). Don’t tell my mom’,” she said.
That from a player who soon will take a leap of faith when it comes to picking a college.
