After a Central Illinois super-sectional sweep, three local teams prepare this week for state finals.
Limestone heads to the 3A baseball semifinals for the first time since 2005. “It’s awesome because you know this is going to go down in the books.,” Limestone senior Calvin Peacock said. “We are going to be a big part of history at Limestone, and that’s all you want as a high school athlete.”
Limestone will play Springfield High at noon Friday at Silver Cross Field in Joliet.
Normal West Softball earned its first-ever berth in the state finals. Several Wildcats seniors played as freshman on the varsity team that came up one win shy of State. “We have worked so hard to get here and our coaches are awesome and they definitely deserved this,” senior Ellie Sonetz said.
Normal West’s state finals debut comes Friday at 3 pm against Downers Grove South at Eastside Centre.
Finally, Washington Softball takes its 31-game win streak to the 3A finals. The Panthers made an unlikely run to a state championship last season, but the top-ranked Panthers have been the team to beat all season.
Washington plays Sacred Heart-Griffin Friday at 12:30 in a state semifinal. The Panthers beat SHG 15-3 in May.
