Washington Rallies For Semifinal Win


Washington scored twice in the seventh inning to beat Springfield Sacred Heart-Griffin, 6-5, in a Class 3A state softball semifinal at EastSide Centre on Friday.

Abigail Weisbruch’s sacrifice fly scored Savannah Budd with the game-winning run. Budd, who was on base three times for the defending state champs, had a key hit in the seventh.

Sophomore Hayley Earl singles home Morgan Osborn with the game-tying run in the seventh. Shelby Summer and Madi McCoy homered for Washington (37-1), which won its 31st straight game.

The Panthers, who trailed 5-1 to SHG, will face Lombard Montini in the Class 3A title game Saturday at 11 a.m.
