Extreme rainfall reports from Friday and Friday night

Peoria, Ill – Multiple rounds storms brought heavy rain, flash flooding and severe weather to Central Illinois on Friday. The heaviest rain fell between Peoria and Pontiac where 4-8 inches of rain was reported. Peoria International Airport set a September 27th rainfall record with 3.14″ of rain on Friday. This broke the previous record of 1.99″ set in 1936. The airport ended up with 3.49″ of rain when it was all said and done.

While PIA set a record for rainfall, the airport missed out on the heaviest rain that fell across the region. Here are some rainfall reports as of Saturday morning.

Flood Warnings have been posted along the Illinois River from La Salle to Havana. In Peoria, the river is expected to rise above flood stage on Monday and reach 22 feet (moderate flood stage) by Wednesday.

Showers and storms are expected to redevelop across Central Illinois Saturday evening and continue overnight. Storm chances will linger through Sunday but storms that develop will be a little more hit and miss. Rainfall amounts of 0.50″ to 1.00″ is expected with localized amounts up to 2 inches possible.

Scattered thunderstorms are expected to redevelop across Central Illinois Saturday night. Periods of heavy rain are possible once again.
