OSF Saint Francis Medical Center just became the first in the State to earn accreditation for its Rectal Cancer Program through the American College of Surgeons – one of only 10 programs in the country, and the only one in Illinois, to earn this distinction.

Colorectal cancer (cancer that starts in the colon or rectum) is the third most commonly diagnosed cancer and the second leading cause of cancer death in men and women combined in the United States. The risk of colorectal cancer increases as people get older. Colorectal cancer can occur in young adults and teenagers, but the majority of colorectal cancers occur in people older than 50.
