Illinois French Creole History and Culture

Sunday, Sept. 15

2-3:30 p.m. at Peoria Public Library North Branch

Noted historian and musician Dennis Stroughmatt takes us back in time to an Illinois we never knew, our French Creole roots. His work is archived at the Library of Congress. He’s performed at the Kennedy Center during the Smithsonian Folklife Festival. He is one of 20 people in the world who still speak the specific dialect that was Illinois’ first foreign tongue – after the Native Americans but before the English.

Come enjoy ancient folktales, haunting ballads and foot-stomping fiddle tunes!
