Morton Civic Chorus presents “Encore” to benefit the Central Illinois Memorial Kidney Fund

WMBD This Morning

The Morton Civic Chorus, under the direction of Denise Adams, will celebrate their 48th Year of
Raising Money for Patients of Chronic Kidney disease with a musical revue entitled “Encore”
held at the Hartmann Center Theater on Bradley University’s campus, May 21 to 25 at 7:30 p.m.
and May 26 at 2:00 p.m.

Encore” presented by the Morton Civic Chorus is the largest fund raising arm for the Central
Illinois Memorial Kidney Fund. CIMKF as the organization is known assists patients of chronic
kidney disease throughout Central Illinois. The chorus started in 1971 as the Morton Women’s
Chorus and was motivated to choose dialysis patients as their charity when one of their chorus
members was afflicted with the disease. In 1976, CIMKF was formed to allow the distribution
of monies to dialysis patients in 12 Central Illinois Counties. A Volunteer Board of directors
meets monthly with a social worker reviewing cases of patients in need. A CIMKF patient can
expect to receive monies for items not covered by Healthcare, Medicare or Medicaid. These
items may include medication costs, transportation to and from the dialysis unit and basic living

Every year the chorus enlists an Honorary Chairman to assist with their fundraising efforts. This year
they have chosen Dave Barnwell, retired Principal of Woodruff High School. Dave is credited with
hiring Denise Adams as choral director at Woodruff. This year he is assisting the chorus in celebrating Denise as their longest running director at 35 years.

“Encore 2019” selections include, “We’ve Come This Far By Faith”, “The Eyes of All Wait
Upon Thee”, “We are the Music Makers”, “Porgy and Bess Medley” and “The Twelve Days of a
Regifted Christmas”, just to name a few.
